Big Apple, Whittle Things
It’s approaching a year since I graduated college, “became an adult” and moved to New York City. I’ve had three moves, three jobs and too many overpriced lattes to count. I’ve learned more in nearly a year of post-grad life lessons than in my entire career of higher ed all-nighters. Living in a city full of creation and unlimited opportunity, I decided it was time to launch “The Whittle Things” as a way to document my journey and daily inspirations.
Over the past couple of weeks, the temperature here has plummeted, and New Yorkers are rocking their signature all-black looks. Although there is a seemingly monochromatic uniform in the city, New Yorkers always find a way to inject statements of self-expression and individuality. I wanted to kick off the blog with a black-on-black outfit where I’ve added my own flair. With a bit of 70's throwback appeal, this abstract and amorphous-patterned top from H&M is my current obsession. The fabric is woven lyocell, which is an eco-friendly fabric with a unique linen-like texture. To polish off the look, I usually tuck the button-down into my trousers, which I keep at a higher waistline. For footwear, I like to rock a classic white sneaker to add contrast and to give the look more of a streetwear feel. However, if I'm out on the town for an evening occasion, I like to class my look up a bit with a pair of black, patent-leather double monk-strap shoes.
Thank you for reading, and let me know how you personalize an all-black look! Additionally, if you have any feedback or have interest in collaborating, please feel free to reach out to me via the Contact page. I’d love to hear from you!
